XXXTENTACION rose to mainstream attention with the single “Look at Me”. His debut album 17 (2017) was certified triple platinum by the RIAA. His second album (2018) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and the album’s lead single, “Sad!”, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. On June 18, 2018, XXXTENTACION was fatally shot at the age of 20.
XXXTENTACION has RIAA-certified sales of 61 million units in the US and BPI-certified sales of over 7 million units in the UK, bringing his total to 68 million certified records sold within the two countries. Since his death, he has won an American Music Award, a BET Hip Hop Award, and received 11 Billboard Music Award nominations. Two posthumous albums were released, Skins (2018) and Bad Vibes Forever (2019); the former became his second number-one album on the Billboard 200.
Lil Pump rose to popularity in 2017 with the single “Gucci Gang”, which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The single was featured on his debut album Lil Pump (2017), which peaked at number 3 on the US Billboard 200. He has since released the singles “I Love It” (with Kanye West), “Esskeetit”, “Drug Addicts”, “Butterfly Doors”, “Racks on Racks”, “Be Like Me” (featuring Lil Wayne), and “Welcome to the Party” from the Deadpool 2 soundtrack. His second studio album Harverd Dropout (2019) peaked at number 7 on the US Billboard 200.
This catalog is mainly comprised of two songs (99%) “I Don’t Even Speak Spanish LoL” sung by XXXTENTACION and “Arms Around You” both sung by XXXTENTACION and Lil Pump featuring Maluma and Swae Lee which was produced by Skrillex.
The income has spiked because of the first release in March of 2018 of “I Don’t Even Speak Spanish LOL” and then again with the release of “Arms Around You” in November of 2018 and the final spike was from the release of “Play”.
Looking at the revenue by song we can see that Speak Spanish looks to have gotten close to flatline or is at flatline. We will dig deeper into that analysis on the next chart.
Arms Around You still has room to decline even though there was an uptick in the last two quarters but we will investigate that further in the next charts. It is highly likely that the $1,400 range with some degradation could be possible around being in flatline.
Digging deeper into “I Don’t Even Speak Spanish LoL” we can see that all of the income types have stabilized but are still showing a slight decline. International seems to have stabilized and even bumped up last quarter. International normally runs behind a couple quarters or longer but because of the popularity of XXXTENTACION internationally, it could be that these income streams could be stabilizing as well.
Looking at “Arms Around You” we can see that the normal income streams have also stabilized but still with a good amount of degradation. It could be that this song is still 2 quarters away from a real flatline. The good news is that international has continued to show strength and looking at the very similar song of “I Don’t Even Speak Spanish LoL” which has less plays on YouTube at 33m compared to “Arms Around You” at 294m we could infer that international could be closer to flatline and that the overall revenue could be closer than flatline than anticipated.
This is an awesome investment catalog because of the songs and the artist. Lil Pump is still growing and doing well while XXXTENTACION has become a cult icon that in death is selling more than his peers. The downside is that although it is very close to flatline will be some decline in the revenue over the next one or two quarters or more.
